THE STORY "I'm a soul raised on country and rock n' roll"

Rock and roll passion mixed with a heart of country gold! Rod Black’s journey Begins with his professional rodeo family that moved around Canada in Rods Early life. Finally setteling in Regina and Saskatoon where Rod went to high school, he found a love for Rock and Roll. That mix of music has some people saying he has a Kid Rock /Uncle Cracker feel to his writing.  This passion would see rod reach Billboard success in both genres.  Rod Black was the lead singer of Jet Black Stare who reached 26 on the US Billboard Rock Charts. Black has also seen success when he went back to his country roots reaching top 20 on the Canadian Billboard charts.

Rod has shared the stage with country acts such as Dierks Bentley, Chris Young, Dallas Smith, Meghan Patrick, as well as national rock artists Three Doors Down, Stained & Shinedown.

Rod Black grew up on vintage country classics from southern rock pioneers to the original country outlaws.

In 2017, Black got the attention of Bristol Records who receive worldwide distribution through SONY/The Orchard. Bristol Records quickly signed him to a multi-year contract. Black’s stage presence and his experience with touring is second to none, while his drive and passion for music is simply unstoppable.

In 2018, Bristol Records released Black’s top 20 Canadian Billboard single, “Keepin’ On”, to the US market. This proved to be successful as it reached top 80 on the US Country Music Row Charts. Black spent all of 2018 touring with his labelmates throughout the United States which included Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Georgia and Florida. They also performed in parts of Canada.

In 2019, Bristol Records released “Good Times” which was produced by Dan Swinimer and co-written by Rod Black, Chris Labelle (Rivertown Saints) and Dan Swinimer. The song hit #1 on SiriusXM Canada in less than 3 weeks following the release and stayed at that position for and incredible 16+ weeks.

In 2020, Rod Black has teamed up with Producer/Writer Jeff Johnson who is a 2017 CCMA award winner (Producer of the year) and a 5-time BC Country Music Association award winning Producer. The first release for 2020 titled “Walk On” was co-written by Black and Johnson. The duo has seen major success previously as co-writers with US Billboard charting rock group Jet Black Stare which got signed by industry mogul L.A. Reid to a million-dollar contract with Island/Def Jam New York. The pair also wrote the top 20 Billboard Country song “Keepin On” in 2014 which Jeff Johnson also Produced
